How to “Sound Out” Words
How to “Sound Out” Words:
In our classroom we are learning to sound out words. The purpose is for students to:
·
Learn that words can be divided by sounds
·
Learn how to identify sounds sequentially
·
Learn how to blend separate sounds into a word
The steps for this activity, including the hand gestures,
are as followed:
·
Hand in a
ball – say the word
·
Fingers –
say the sounds (tap one finger per sound on the palm of opposite hand)
·
Fist –
say the word again
Need clarification?
Ask your kindergartner to show you!
Also, check out our class Twitter account to see a video of students
sounding out words!
