Wouldn’t it be great if we could build more downtime into each school day? In today’s hurried school climate, it’s hard to imagine setting aside time to let students self-direct, but there are some great benefits. Think of the powerful, important skills students practice: self-initiative, creativity and self-regulation. In our classroom, we have ten minutes of “quiet time” when students return from recess and lunch. Quiet time is an incredibly effective technique for getting the second half of the day off to a good start!

What is a Can Do?
When K-1 students finish their "must do" activity (blue basket) they can work on a "can do" activity. "Can do" activities include games, puzzles, word searches, play dough, etc.
Ask your child about it!

What is Buddy Reading?
During Buddy Reading, children are paired with apartner to read. Self Regulation is built into this activity with one child having a lips card and one having an ears card to help them remember who is reading and who is listening. Children are reading at their own level which means some use the pictures in the book to tell the story while others read leveled readers.

What is Math Workshop?
Math workshop is a structure that provides an opportunity for students to work on a variety of activities, usually focused on similar mathematical content, over time. A math workshop generally includes 3-5 activities that students do over several sessions. By repeatedly playing a game or solving a problem, students refine strategies, use different contexts, and bring new knowledge to familiar experiences.

Drop-off and Pick-up
Drop-off:
Drop-off will be at the front circle (the old parking lot). For inclement weather, students will line up inside at the front office.
Pick-up:
I will release students down the ramp into the small parking lot (closed to traffic at that time). Please plan to meet your child there. No kindergartner will be dismissed until a parent or responsible adult has met them. Once I give your child a high five they may go. Please make sure your child gives me a high five before leaving, so I know that they were picked up safely.
Thank you!
Mrs. Nolan
