What’s happening in K-1 Submitted by Ms. Nolan
This has been quite a busy year for K-1 so far! In October, we traveled back to Medieval Times while reading The Magic Tree House: Knights at Dawn. During our adventure, we learned about castles, motes, jesters, minstrels, and feasts. The kindergarten students made props such as candle sticks, lutes, crowns, and jester hats, and dramatized what it would be like to be at an actual medieval feast. In November, we read The Magic Tree House: Mummies in the Morning. This book took the K-1 class back to Ancient Egypt! Pyramids, Hieroglyphics, and bread making were just a few of the topics we learned about. The students shared what they had learned with one another and wrote about it in their “Egyptian Fact Book.” Then the students dramatized each chapter of the book with their groups. Lastly, the K-1 class hosted a Thanksgiving Feast for their families. We learned about the first Thanksgiving and talked about what it meant to be thankful with our third grade book buddies from Mrs. Lees class. During the feast we sang songs and enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal! Stay tuned for more in K-1! |
