Science: Building Baby Bears Chair

Today during science we were engineers!  We worked in small groups to create chairs that Goldilocks couldn't break!

Check out our designs:

Be sure to ask your child about it!

2018-2019 Stratton School Directory

Dear Stratton families:

It's time to enter your information for the 2018-2019 Stratton Directory! Many families find it indispensable (think birthday parties and play dates), as do the faculty and staff.

***Click here to enter your information between now and Friday, October 5th.***
When you're using the site, please note a few things:

- Enter your family's information and then your child(ren)'s information in the *two separate tabs* at the top of the screen: "Family Information" and "Edit Children"

- Be careful of typos when entering addresses and phone numbers.

-Returning families: Try to find an existing entry for your family before creating a new one. This will help me tremendously by cutting down on the number of duplicate entries before publication.

Trouble with the site? Questions? Concerns? Please send me an email at directory@strattonpto.org.

Best,
Carolyn Carlson
Stratton Directory Coordinator

Volunteers in K-1

Hello K-1 families,
Classroom volunteers will officially begin the first week of November! Anyone entering Stratton School to volunteer will need to have a CORI check. Please let me know if you need additional CORI forms and I will send them home in your child's home-school folder.

There are two slots available per day. The responsibilities of classroom volunteers is to help with general classroom needs, assist with scaffolded writing, literacy baskets, and/or math workshop.

Please note: In order for our building to be a safe and secure place for our students to learn and grow, I ask that what you hear or observe about students and/or staff while volunteering is to remain confidential. Thank you for your understanding in advance!

There will be many other opportunities to volunteer throughout the year in the K-1 classroom. If these times do not work for you, please let me know and we can work something out. Additionally, if you are unable to come into the classroom but would like to volunteer from home, please let me know!

Mystery Reader

Every Monday afternoon we will have a Mystery Reader visit our classroom to do a read aloud. Mystery readers can be family members, community members, siblings, grandparents, etc. The K-1 students will not know who is coming in each week and it will be both exciting and suspenseful when we read the three clues you provide in advance! All mystery readers will need to fill out a CORI.

We're using SignUp.com (the leading online SignUp and reminder tool) to organize our upcoming SignUps.

Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:

1) Click this link to see our SignUp on SignUp.com: http://signup.com/go/wToPyOB
2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.
3) Sign up! It's Easy - you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.com.

Note: SignUp.com does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me and I can sign you up manually.

Stratton PRIDE!

PRIDE in our students, PRIDE in our school, PRIDE in our community!

Stratton PRIDE is a community-building and independence-promoting enrichment program.  Throughout the year, the entire school gathers for PRIDE assemblies and through presentations and activities, the Stratton PRIDE program fosters:
PERSEVERANCE
RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY
INDEPENDENCE
DEDICATION
EMPOWERMENT
The main goals of the PRIDE program are:
  • To create a common language across grade levels
  • The provide a discussion forum for relevant issues
  • To create a classroom and school community of respect and inclusion
  • To learn problem-solving skills to apply inside and outside of the classroom
Topics discussed at PRIDE assemblies include respect for oneself and others, the importance of trying one’s best, and other issues that strengthen the sense of community and individual responsibility.  Ask your kindergartner how they can show PRIDE!
Students are encouraged to wear their grade’s assigned PRIDE color on assembly days.  When students sit together for assemblies they can readily see their grades and others, and the rainbow the school makes together.  PRIDE Assemblies are held once a month on Thursday mornings. Specific dates will be posted in our classroom newsletter.

PRIDE Assembly Dates:

9/13
10/11
11/8
12/13
1/10
2/7
3/14
4/11
5/9
6/13

PRIDE T-shirts:

Stratton PRIDE shirts are on their way! In an effort to reduce the per shirt cost, the PTO has bulk ordered PRIDE shirts for each grade (and new this year--for parents!). These will be available in early September. Stay tuned for the announcement!
